Current Developments
Work Commences on Cityport SouthCairns Ports have awarded a contract to FGF Developments for the construction of pedestrian paths, landscaping and lighting along the foreshore in Cityport South. This contract was tendered in December 2008 and works will commence in March 2009.
This project will open up the Cityport South foreshore to the public for the first time with the creation of pedestrian paths linking Wharf number 1 to the Hilton Hotel and The Esplanade. These interim works are the first stage in the creation of the public open spaces and foreshore promenade envisaged in the Cityport Masterplan.
Cairns Ports Chairman, Mr Clive Skarott, said “Cityport will create a 600 metre public promenade along the harbour linking the Cairns Convention Centre through the Lagoon and Esplanade”. “This contract will open up a further 200 metres of that public promenade between the Hilton Hotel and Wharf No 1 for the first time” Mr Skarott said.
These works in combination with the delivery of the $11.2 million upgrade of the cruise terminal which will commence this year, will deliver significant benefits to the people of Cairns and tourists.
The current developments within the exciting new precinct of Cityport will change the face of Cairns and make it a sophisticated social hub for locals and tourists to enjoy. The following outlines developments that are presently underway and their effect on the Cairns region.

Interim Works Plan
Marina Point
Marina Point, located on Cairns Marlin Marina and adjacent to The Esplanade, completes the Cityport North project work.
This exciting development creates and entry to Cityport from the Esplanade. The highlights of Marina Point include the new club rooms, boathouse and sailing pontoon for the Cairns Yacht Club (CYC) and the city’s newest bar and dining venue, Salt House Bar and Restaurant. It also offers additional retail outlets and amenities for marina users.

Cairns Marlin Marina
Owned and operated by Ports North, Cairns Marlin Marina is a world class 214 berth marina, accommodating a significant fleet of commercial reef, local, visiting and charter vessels. In addition, there is a 10 berth Superyacht facility.
In 2003 the Cairns Marlin Marina underwent a significant upgrade as part of the Cityport North works. There is potential for future expansion at the current marina site, with the basin having the capacity to house up to 250 berths.
The Pier Shopping Centre and Shangri La Hotel
Located at the northern extremity of Cityport and adjacent to the Cairns Marlin Marina, the Pier complex incorporates a retail shopping centre, waterfront bar/restaurant precinct and the 5 Star Shangri La Hotel.
Originally constructed in the late 1980’s, the complex underwent a major refurbishment in 2003 and is now a great spot to stay, shop and dine all in one convenient location.
Reef Fleet Terminal and Plaza
More than 800,000 passengers are processed through the world-class Reef Fleet Terminal every year. Located adjacent to the Marlin Wharf and Marina, and accommodating all of the major reef tour operators, the Reef Fleet Terminal is the region's main departure point to the Great Barrier Reef and islands.
The building itself incorporates two stories comprising of a passenger terminal, retail shops and commercial office space.
Harbour Lights Apartments
Harbour Lights is the first of the Cityport commercial sites to be released for development and is located immediately adjacent to the Reef Fleet Terminal.
With 12 stories and 193 apartments the building is owner occupied and managed and encompasses a waterfront dining precinct to capitalise upon the amazing location.
Hilton Hotel Cairns
Located on Marlin Parade, immediately opposite Harbour Lights, the Hilton Hotel Cairns is a 250 room international standard hotel that has been synonymous with the Cairns waterfront for over 20 years.
Heritage Listed Wharf Sheds
There are currently two heritage listed wharf sheds that are centrally located within Cityport. These are utilised as a Cruise Terminal and for wharf storage.
Both sheds will be retained and refurbished to provide upgraded cruise terminal facilities and complimentary retail/commercial uses.
Cairns Convention Centre
Cityport is anchored at its southern boundary by the world renowned Cairns Convention Centre.
This is a purpose built, international standard meetings facility and has been the venue for everything from prominent exhibits, banquets, local celebrations and major international conventions.
Planned Developments
Cityport South
Cityport South is the area of Cityport to the south of the Hilton Hotel Cairns. It has a land area of approximately 8.7 hectares and provides for up to eight (8) development parcels.
Work on the first stage of the Cityport South development commenced during 2006, with detailed planning for the redevelopment of the foreshore south from the Hilton and the demolition of the disused Trinity Wharf retail complex.
Release of a land parcel for development in this location is planned in the near future.
